February 23, 2026

If you’re a fan of PBS’ America’s Test Kitchen and Cook’s Country, here’s your chance to see two of the most trusted voices in home cooking—live and in person. Bridget Lancaster and Julia Collin Davison, Executive Editorial Directors and longtime co-hosts of both hit shows, are bringing their kitchen-tested expertise (and signature humor) to the Salt Lake Home + Garden Show.

Catch them live on the Garden Stage: Friday, March 6 at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m. (A photo opportunity will follow each presentation.)

Before they arrive, we asked Bridget and Julia the same set of questions—and their answers are exactly what you’d hope for: practical, honest, and full of personality.

When it comes to must-have kitchen tools, Julia keeps it classic: “A good, sharp, chef's knife that fits your hand and chopping style. There is no one knife that suits everyone, and there are lots to choose from.” Bridget’s advice? “An electric knife sharpener. Keep it handy and you'll never have to use a dull knife again.”

Their underrated essentials are equally smart. Julia swears by “a large wooden cutting board… made from teak… large so you've got plenty of room to have separate piles of food that is prepped and not yet prepped.” Bridget recommends “a set of wireless thermometer probes that includes one for checking the grill temperature. It's the best invention since sliced brisket.”

Want to become a better cook? Julia says, “Get a good instant read thermometer and learn the basic temperatures of cooked foods… Guessing when your food is done is for amateurs.” Bridget’s advice is refreshingly simple: “Practice, practice, practice. Make a weekly plan of what you're going to cook and prep as many ingredients as you can ahead of time.”

They’re just as candid about what they won’t cook. Julia: “Sushi. Just, no.” Bridget: “Beets. Nor will I eat them.”

And since this is the Salt Lake Home + Garden Show, we had to ask about kitchen design. Julia recommends incorporating “some counter space without overhanging cabinets… so that you have a nice workspace for prepping.” Bridget shares that the best decision she and her husband made was creating “a sizable (could be bigger) pantry and no upper cabinets,” paired with extra-deep base cabinets for maximum workspace.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see Bridget Lancaster and Julia Collin Davison live. Come ready to laugh, learn, and walk away with practical, no-nonsense advice you’ll actually use in your own kitchen.
